Hello everyone.
Recently, I started using electric bikes for commuting and weekend adventures, but I really like it. However, I am facing a problem that is a bit troubled, and I want to listen to your opinions on how to deal with it in a similar situation.
The situation is: I try to record the ride to understand my route, distance and average speed. The problem is that you don’t want to use the smartphone app. There are many popular cycling apps, but a simpler and smartphone-independent way is better. The ride is like a little escape for me, and I don’t want to be tied to the screen or worry about the battery level.
What I noticed was a simple cycling tracker tool. For those who do not know, a cycling tracker (also known as a digital mileage recording tool) is a compact device for monitoring and recording basic data during driving. Unlike smartphone-dependent apps, these are independent gadgets that can track mileage, running time, and in some cases speed and elevation. The choice of a GPS-equipped model and a non-GPS model allows riders to choose flexibly according to their needs. The appeal of this concept is that you can collect meaningful data while concentrating on driving.
There are so many tools in the market that you don’t know where to start. Some are specialized in GPS function,
Very old Garmin Etrex Vista HCx is used, from which you can download the track to your PC. I still use “Memory Maps” here.
Since this Etrex has already uploaded OpenStreet Maps, you can view the route in very detail with progress.
There is no need to track anything, or to be tied to another screen. Live this moment, breathe in the air, listen to the sound of nature.
Not enough roads in Scotland to need a tracker
I don’t think you need a special gadget. Simple smartwatches like Huawei GT2 and GT4 allow you to do all the more.
Even when using a smartphone, it is not tied to the screen. If you press the Start button, you can quickly pocket it. You can check the results carefully after returning home.
Finally, many cyclists are shooting a running record with a camera in preparation for an accident. Some models have advanced tracker capabilities, and you can record all the information you give. When downloading a video, you can save tracking data on your PC at the same time.
I like to keep records of certain “exploratory” rides. Where did you actually go?
But I like maps, I like exploration, and I like technology.
A tracker in a pocket, a panier, or a backpack will never take the fun out. If you are not interested in the ride, you don’t even need to download the trajectory.
For example, in a journey to explore France’s dirt road network, without the trajectory of actually finding a way, it would be a considerable mental challenge. Even many maps do not necessarily provide that level of detail. My advantage of Etrex is that you can see where you are, not where you think you are!
There are many other solutions.
Unless turned off, Google can track all your actions and check the timeline from Google Maps.
