Best Saddles for High-Mileage Riders?

I am 54 years old, but regardless of age, a rider with a good training program can fight with anyone except the fastest class. There are also many long rides. This year, the new motorcycle was fitted with Fizik Antares R1 Versus EVO saddles, and this is exactly what is causing the pain of torture. Lightweight (145mm wide and 185g), the shape and width look appropriate, but the sitting bone hurts. I just finished the two-hour climb this morning and it’s hard to sit right now. This saddle ran 1,000 miles (about 1,600 km), but there is no sign of improvement.

Hard riders with long rides, which saddle is comfortable? Thank you.

Fizique Arione. For more than 10 years, no other saddle has been used. Thanks to its length, the position adjustment in the front and rear directions becomes more free according to the road gradient. It is made of cushioned and durable leather.

Specialized Power Expert. It is an intermediate model of the lineup. It is popular with all elite players in the team. The low price model is heavy rail. The best models are too rigid and many riders are not good at it. You can choose from four types of saddles. Find a size adjustable store. I love my saddle. Designed for aggressive riding posture - - a short nose shape to ensure plenty of space between the groins. I love my saddle.

If you’ve already put 1,000 miles on the Antares and it still feels like torture, it’s probably just the wrong match for your sit bones. Saddles are very personal — width alone doesn’t guarantee comfort. I’ve had much better luck with the Selle Italia SLR Boost and the Specialized Power saddles. Both spread pressure differently and support longer climbs without that burning sit bone pain.

I went through the same thing in my early 50s — Antares looked perfect on paper but never stopped hurting. What solved it for me was getting a proper sit-bone measurement at the shop. Turns out I needed a 155mm saddle, not a 145. I switched to a Brooks Cambium C13 Carved, and the pressure relief channel made a huge difference on 3+ hour rides.

Don’t underestimate padding in your shorts either. Even the best saddle can feel brutal with worn or low-quality bibs. That said, for long mountain rides I’ve had success with the Selle SMP line (Forma and Dynamic models). The curved shape takes pressure off sensitive spots and spreads weight better. Pricey, but worth it if you’re doing big climbing days regularly.

What was good in the saddle you used before? Buy the same thing again or transfer the old one to a new bike

Saddle preferences are very personal. What suits me doesn’t always suit you.

I Fizik Aliante VS fits best. I finished production a few years ago, but every time I bought a new bike, I found it on eBay. It’s not as lightweight as other saddles, but I don’t care. Because I know it suits me.

Oh, and if you don’t have a problem under the pandemic, we recommend getting a professional bike fitting.

Specialized Power Saddle - However, for most users, it must be noted that it is a saddle of “likes or dislikes”
