any idea on how much do electric bikes cost

Im planning to buy my first electric bike this week and Ive saved up a comfortable $1000-$1500. Will this be enough for a decent bike or will I just start my hobby with a cheap piece of junk I could save longer if I really need it but judging by the average prices Ive seen while shopping this price range leans towards the mid- to low-mid range. Also Im not very experienced and have no idea what to look for. All I know is that I want something with pedal assist for steep hills and a pure electric mode for leisurely cruising. Any thoughts experiences or stories are welcome. Thank you P.S. I plan to use it on a mix of paved roads roads and off-road trails. I think something built for trails would be better than concrete.

What currency or region are you from

It depends on the level of components you need whether you want mid-drive or hub drive full suspension front suspension or no suspension.

A decent one will set you back $2000 but you can make one yourself for less.

It depends on what you do right. For $1000 you can buy a cheap bike thatll last a year or so or if youre lucky you might even get a decent one. Are you a DIY kind of person or do you need to ask a bike shop for maintenance

I bought a mid-range truck motorcycle for $3500. It was better but it had a removable Bosch battery.

I paid about $1000 but I got a solid machine that was suitable for daily riding.

Using a used bike and a conversion kit you can build one for around 500 euros.

Do you really want something good Then expect $3500 to $4000.

I agree with Aventon. I think its pretty good quality. I currently own a Lectric XP 3.0 but at $1200 its not super high-quality but its not cheap junk either. Rad Power also has some pretty good models. I rode a RadRunner 2 last year and was thrilled until it was stolen a month after I bought it. It seems like some bikes have come down in price recently.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. After reading all the comments and considering the opinions of those on nextgen electric bike forum I decided to purchase the Ride1up LMTD based on your recommendation. Thank you again I cant wait to get out there and ride

Isnt that the opposite Bosch and Specialized have proprietary standards so you dont want to deal with too many shops. Meanwhile the Chinese company Bafang sells cheap parts and service manuals and like Japanese cars YouTube tutorials on repairs and maintenance have been released for years. Avoid completely anonymous Chinese brands… Bafang is the OG.

Ive never made or owned anything myself before. I have zero experience but I harbor the delusion that with time and YouTube I can DIY anything.

YW Please check it carefully when it arrives and if there are any shipping issues please send me photos. Theres always a chance something could go wrong but Ride1Up is very fast. It comes with a set of hex wrenches and a cap to prevent heat loss during assembly. Theres also an assembly video on the website. Be sure to wear a proper helmet as its going fast. I feel responsible for making this possible now laughs.

As far as I know many local bike shops can repair or service this motor. Bafangs motor isnt bad either but since its a DIY project Im not sure if its what the contributor is asking for.

As far as I know most local bike shops repair or offer repairs for these motors. Previously when I tried to repair a well-known brand motor it required extensive inspection and the parts and labor were even more expensive. Since then Ive been sticking to generic parts most are DIY but not all.
